Thanks to Signe Foreman, who added: “Please if you know anything to help this become a reality PLEASE HELP!! I grew up in this theater because my Grandma worked there for over 20 years, and I spent my childhood there.”

Preservation Alert Clearview’s Art Deco Metro Theater Closes
NEW YORK, NY — With no fanfare at all, one of New York City’s most under-appreciated Art Deco facades went dark last week with the closure of the Metro Theater. The former Midtown Theater had been operating as a first-run twin for the embattled circuit, but attendance was low and times are tough for the struggling exhibitor.

This theater, which was featured in “Hannah and Her Sisters,” deserves an encore. Landmark, City Cinemas, Crown, Symphony Space: we’re talking to you. Make a deal…quickly.

Thanks to Mike Hoytes for relaying the sad news.

Preservation Alert Cinema Theatre Threatened With Demolition
BERKELEY, CA — This is from the SaveTheCinema.com website:

ALERT!! Landmark Hearing scheduled for this Monday, February 3rd at 7:30 PM, at the North Berkeley Senior Center, corner Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Hearst Street. The public is urgently needed to attend. Please speak out about preserving Berkeley’s cultural landmarks! If we don’t get a good turn-out, we WILL lose this precious Cinema Treasure!

As you are reading this, the Cinema Theatre, currently called The Fine Arts, is in grave danger of being demolished, not for being derilict ( the building is sound and well-maintained ), but for being in the way of a planned development.

If you are anywhere near the area, we urge you to attend and lend your support for the Cinema.
