Edwards Temple Cinema 4 Goes Dark

TEMPLE CITY, CA — The Edwards Temple Cinema 4, which sits on the spot of the 2nd Temple Theatre, at 9021 Las Tunas Drive, is dark, and the marquee is blank. It’s been this way now for at least a week. From speaking with people who used to go there, some have said that the inside was not being kept up. Others say that a restaurant is to be built there. Sad to see!

It’s closure has been expected ever since the opening of the Edwards Stadium complex in nearby Alhambra which already had the Atlantic Palace 10 a few blocks away. The Edwards 5 plex in Alhambra closed also. The Temple cinemas were small crackerboxes with no interesting features at all and although the house was consistently booked with top first run fare it was allowed to decline both inside and out. There is also a large AMC multi-screen complex being built in nearby Arcadia giving the immediate area far more screens than it needs. It was a lousy place to see a movie and I do not lament it’s passing.

Here’s a newspaper article about the closings of the Temple Cinema 4 and a good nearby video store: http://www.casegod.com/articles/d040109.html
One thing I liked was that there were windows in the projection-booth doors so you could see the film spooling off the platters and over pulleys to the projectors.
