Saving The Yeadon Theater

YEADON, PA — An application for a grant to study the stabilization and preservation of the Yeadon Theater was approved at a January 5 reorganization meeting of Yeadon Borough Council, according to a report in the News of Delaware County.

A fixture of the Yeadon streetscape since 1937, the Yeadon Theatre is attributed to designer John Eberson, described by one theatre enthusiast as the “Frank Lloyd Wright of theatre design.”

The borough began the process of demolition in September, and outcry from preservationists and others brought about a reevaluation, and demolition was halted with the rear portion of the building removed.
