Wanted for purchase or lease: Philadelphia area theater

posted by srphiladelphia on July 16, 2009 at 3:40 pm

I have always wanted to own and operate a small, 1 or 2 screen, theater and have recently started my search for properties in/around the Philadelphia area. Ideally, I would love to find a property with a seller who is willing to teach me the ropes. Although my preference is to purchase a theater, I am open to looking at lease agreements.

Please contact me if you know of any theaters for sale in the Philadelphia area.

Thanks!
Sarah

What a wonderful quest it would be to operate a single screen movie theater! Unfortunately, no “small” single or twinned screened movie theater in the immediate Philadelphia area is likely available. There are’t many surviving and the cost to acquire or lease any would be very very expensive.

Good call newt. I would love to see Ventnor saved. A nice theatre by the shore, a rarity these days.

Depends on what you call the Philadelphia area?? There are two theatres in Lancaster County, about 60 miles West of Philadelphia, that are ripe for a touch up and reopen. The one theatre is in Marietta, PA and is being restored by the Marietta Historical Society. I know from what I have read, they are looking for someone to operate the theatre when it is finished. The other is the Joy Theatre in Mount Joy, PA. Both theatres are listed on this website. The Joy Theatre, even though it has been closed since the 1960’s has been maintained. The seats have been removed, but the building itself is in good condition. The Marietta Theatre is listed under that name and the Joy Theatre is listed under that name. Both have pictures on their threads.
