The Brooklyn Theatre Index

Good news for theatre lovers (especially those in the New York area). Recently published in 2010 is the definitive appraisal of all movie theatres to have operated in Brooklyn, a borough known to have had the most theatres operating out of the five NYC Boroughs.

‘The Brooklyn Theatre Index’ is the work of Cezar Del Valle, noted Brooklyn theatre historian, lecturer and tour guide, who has contributed to Cinema Treasures, and is a member of the Theatre Historical Society of America. Thoroughly researched, and working both numerically and alphabetically along all the streets in the Borough that ever had a movie theatre, this has been a mammoth task to compile. However, it is simply laid out and easy on the eye in a large format, with reference indexes giving Theatre Listings and Addresses, and an Index of Theatres. There is a sprinkling of historic photographs by way of illustation.

Where known, years of operation, architects, seating capacities and other relevant details combine with contemporary press reports, to make up a complete record of the Borough’s theatres spread over two volumes (with a Volume III due in 2011, which will deal specifically with the Coney Island area).

‘The Brooklyn Theatre Index’, Volume I – Adams Street to Lorimer Streeet (Cezar Del Valle, published by Theatre Talks, LLC) & ‘The Brooklyn Theatre Index’, Volume II – Manhattan Avenue to York Street (Cezar Del Valle, published by Theatre Talks, LLC) are both available to purchase online at Amazon.
