Blackstone Theatre, Dwight, Illinois

The 1916 Dwight census lists the Dwight Opera House at 108 West Street. Apparently, the Opera House became the Blackstone Theatre when film displaced road shows. Living in Dwight and working at the Blackstone for 3 years, I was completely familiar with its layout, including the high stage with 2 stairwells, the equipment and supply room under the stage that probably was an earlier ‘green room’, the large sloping upstairs balcony reached via two stairwells. 108 West Street in 1916 would have placed the Blackstone Theatre building at the same address in later years.
