LOS ANGELES, CA — Star Trek fans and moviephiles of widescreen 70mm are cordially invited to attend a rare, spectacular, or is it Trektacular movie event happening every Saturday (except July 3) through July 24, 2010 at the Laemmle Royal Theater. Each of the original series films starting with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan will be shown in 70mm. The screenings start at about midnight and will have a Q&A with a special guest star.
For more information, details can be found at Laemmle.
Boldly go. :)
I wish I lived in LA. It seems this place, the Aero and Egyptian have specialty programming unlike many other venues. Plus, the proximity to the movie capital of the world is a bonus since special guests such as production crew or actors can participate in Q&As and interact with a live audience.
Please bring one of these here to Chicago!
The plan when the series was first announced was to show all six movies in 70mm. Apparently, Laemmle had difficulty securing a 70mm print of the first movie (which does not surprise me given how few of them were made).
Is this not just a blow up from 35mm and not shot in true 70mm?
The first film reportedly was shot in 65mm that had spfx in it. To me, it looks better than the others even in 35mm given the original source material. The others were 35mm, then blown up for 70mm release. I remember when ST II came out and saw it in 70mm and was thoroughly thrilled by the experience and 6-track soundtrack accompanying it BUT noticed grain and other undesirable artifacts from the blow up.
