Antique theater seats for sale

posted by lsnidle on September 9, 2010 at 3:55 pm

We have 183 antique theater seats for sale in Southern Illinois. They were installed in our church in the early 60’s and are believed to be from the Art Deco age (1920-1930). I do not know a lot of history but have been told they came out of a local movie theater in West Salem, Illinois. We have 21 rows of 5 seats and 13 rows of 6 seats. They are in very good shape. The padded seats were recovered in the early 80’s. They are cast iron frames with wood backs and wood arm rest.

If anyone is interested please. I can provide pictures of the seats.

I have had experience with this type of seat before. Since they have wooden backs, they are obviously originally designed for schools or civic auditoriums. They are high quality—but not especially valuable.

Those seats look like they were made by American Seating. A version of their “Bodiform” model for schools and auditoriums. Their theatre version had a padded back and their loge version had a two inch padded back.

I am interested in the seats. I am restoring a 1919 theater in NC, and my seats were damaged by water. I do not have much $$$ at renovations is killing me, but we would love the donation. I need yours for balcony, and can use 500 from the guy who commented. I am Eric, and can be reached at 480-251-3565.
