WAVELAND, MS — The former Star Cinema 3 is reopening after years of neglect following Hurricane Katrina. Two brothers, John and Charles Watzke, are actually taking it over and sinking thousands of dollars into bringing it up to today’s standards. They plan to reopen sometime soon with four screens and digital projection.

It is so exciting that are renovating this theater. I get so sad to see empty old buildings sit there, and the next company comes along and builds a bigger new one, leaving the older building to become dilapidated. We love this when happens because not only is it the business we are in, but it’s good for the community. Especially the older theater have so much character and “good bones” as they put it. Thank you for this site. It is a treasure to anyone who loves cinema.
