Northern/ Western Electric Mirrophonic sound systems

After some research, I am almost sure that the old theater that my dad worked in as a projectionist, had this sound equipment.( The Capital, Welland Ontario).

This equipment was released around 1935, the year the Capitol opened. The speakers were huge! A three way system on a open baffle, Three 15 inch woofers, two 12 ft by 12 ft snail horns and two small flare tweeters. MGM hated this sound system because they were mainly into musicals at the time, because single step taps coming out of these huge horns sounded like two.

What I need to start a second run theater

Where can I get an itemized list of equpiment and pricing to start a second run theater or does someone have one? Just looking for general info right now, mainly the dollar amount to get up and running and some idea of what the total monthly operating cost would be (minus the facility) and specifically what equipment would be needed at a bare minimum. • How to buy old theater

I retired from the military about 1 ½ years ago and it has been a long time dream of mine to own and operate an old-fashioned single screen movie theater. I have worked at a military base theater’s concession stand and as a movie projectionist. My question is how do I start the process of developing a business plan to aquire funding to purchase an old theater? I see there are plenty of old theaters out there. Any help would be much appreciated. Please contact me at .

    Best,
    Mark

    How to increase revenue question….

Hello, I am considering purchasing a fully operational local theater that I am being offered. It’s a Quonset hut design (built in the late 1940’s) and single screen with just over 400 seats, concession stand, a couple of washrooms and a 12x12 separate (but attached) storefront. There is a stage infront of the screen. The building is very cool and retains all art deco styling.

It’s a popular theater and shows previously released films twice a night…one at 7:15pm and a different one around 9pm. It’s in a fairly trendy neighborhood that caters to the younger crowd.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other uses this place could have during the daytime hours? Also, a 12x12 storefront…any ideas? This is the only private theater in town and is well advertised….all I want to do is continue with the same operation (2 films for 5 bucks) but want to increase the bottom end. I am open to any insight! Thanks!

    Chicago Uptown news?

CHICAGO, IL — I continually watch this site for any updated information on the Chicago Uptown Theatre. I have noticed on a photo through Google that there has been scaffolding erected on the front of the theater and plastic sheeting over the top. Can
anyone enlighten me with more information on what’s happening and better still more recent
    photos.

    Regards,
    Paul

Info about 1937 UK Premiere of Snow White

    Hi,

Im preparing a thesis on Walt Disney’s achievements in UK Cinema History. I’m pretty much covered apart from the opening date and place of this film (it could be due to lack of information during the war). If anybody has any information on the premiere please please let me know.

    Thanks
