Does anybody have anything on Sky-Vue Drive-In which was open in the 1950s in Lockhart?
Found the drive-in 1.75 miles west of Carthage.
Texas 149 at Co Rd 208Carthage, TX 75633
It was at the southeast corner of the intersection, and is easily visible in aerial photos from 1954.
The address listed on the heading is for the incorrect location, and is actually the address for the Lone Star/Country Club Drive-In.
The Corral Drive-In was at:4010 Idalou RdLubbock, TX 79403
The newspaper ad posted above by Don Lewis indicates the Corral Drive-In was located on Idalou Highway.
The address is correct but the zip code is slightly off in the header.
The address for the K-Mart which occupied the site today is:
6501 University AveLubbock, TX 79413
The incorrect zip code used in the header directs the mapping to the north part of town, several miles away from the former location of this drive-in.
4100 Interstate 35 Frontage RdWaco, TX 76706
The above address will map accurately to the location of the Waco Drive-In. The address in the header is for the Circle Drive-In, which was roughly 1.5 miles further north.
5309 S 1st StAbilene, TX 79605
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in. The address in the header, while close, is off by over ½ mile to the west.
4005 Pine StAbilene, TX 79601
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is now occupied by Mike’s Wrecking. The address in the header is off by several hundred feet.
US 17, .5 miile south of I-95Hardeeville, SC 29927
The drive-in is visible on aerial photos from 1951.
Columbia Hwy, .7 mile northeast of Boyd Branch RdSaluda, SC 29138
Drive-in is visible on aerial photo from 1969.
US 76 at Artistic RdMullins, SC 29574
1430 South Kings HighwayMyrtle Beach, SC 29577
For mapping purposes, the above address will accurately take you to the location of the drive-in. For whatever reason, Google Earth does not map when using US 17 Business in the location.
Hard to get an address that will map on Google, but just follow SC-6 west of town for roughly 1.5 miles, then when you get to State Rd S-38-556 make a right (heading north) for about .1 mile, the drive-in would have been on the left, or the west side of State Rd S-38-556. It is now farm land.
Whiskey Rd & White Pond Rd
South Carolina 29803
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is still clearly visible in aerial photos from 1971.
Both the Fox Drive-In and the Tower Drive-In are indicated at the same location on CT, Whiskey Road at Pine Log Rd.
Were these the same drive-in, or were they individual drive-ins at different locations? Can any locals clear this up?
Richland Ave at Old Wagener RdAiken, SC 29801
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is visible in aerial photos from 1962.
475 Rochester HighwaySeneca, SC 29672
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is now the site of The Inn at Seneca.
Poinsett Hwy at Skyland AveGreenville, SC 29617
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in. The side street across Poinsett Hwy from the drive-in is named Skyland Ave.
From the summery, are we to presume the Fox Drive-In originally opened as the Miracle Drive-In, and at some point the name was changed?
Further research indicates this drive-in was about 3.6 miles further north than indicated in the previous comment. The location shown in the previous comment refers erroneously to the location of the Starlite Drive-In, which was also on US 321, also known as N Aspen St, where the Starlite was once located.
The 1960 Motion Picture Almanac lists a Friendly Drive-In located in the town of Maiden, NC, which is roughly 7 miles north of Lincolnton. US 321 is also referred to as Maiden Highway 2 miles outside of Lincolnton.
Maiden Hwy & Nicholson Rd, Lincolnton, NC 28092 will map accurately to the location of the Friendly Drive-In, which is visible on HistoricAerials.com when viewing aerial photos from 1951 and 1960.
2220 North Aspen Street
Lincolnton, NC 28092
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is now the address for the Carmike Cinema 8.
Either the location or the dates are inaccurate for this drive-in. Aerial photos from 1964 do not show any evidence of a drive-in at the address provided. Further research is necessary to establish a more accurate placement for the drive-in, and a solid closing date. If it was still standing in 1964, there are high quality aerial photos from 1964 available on Earth Explorer to document the location.
2731 Governors Island Rd, Bryson City, NC 28713
The above location will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which was located on the north side of US 19, also known as Governors Island Rd.
This could have been another “pop-up” temporary drive-in, as aerial photos and topo maps from the 1950s and 1960s show no evidence of drive-in remnants in the vicinity.
jwmovies, do you have an aerial photo showing the outline of the drive-in? I could not find any evidence of a drive-in at the location you provided.
I did find an advertisement for the drive-in in a 1953 high school yearbook which provides location information for Cruise-In Theater as “1 mile north of Lillington on 15-A.”
There were no physical remnants of the drive-in on aerial photos of that area which I examined, which leads me to believe that this was probably a temporary “pop-up” type of drive-in, with no ramps or permanent structures.
