Celluloid Freak,
You really don’t know what you’re talking about. To just call all these theaters dumps is just idiotic. The Quad does great business, always has always will. Just because these theaters might not be up to your standards (whatever they are) doesn’t mean they are not worth going to. I guess all the people that go to the Quad tolerate substandard quality. Dumps, I don’t think so.

It’s the end for this theater. Only a tiny gutted out section of the building is standing.

Digital technology may be hear to stay, but they have been saying that it will replace film for 12 years now. It’s nowhere close to being widespread. A couple of theaters here and there use it once in a while. Film will be around for a long, long time.

Again, as mentioned before, Renovations were done here a few times. The quality of the presentation is excellent. All the equipment is up to date. You do not hear sound from the other theaters now. It is possible that it was that way in the past. Also, the Quad is not like any other multiplex. It is an art house. It is not supposed to be like the other big plexes. It is a comfortable little theater, that again, does very good business.

The Quad runs mainly art and gay films. They also host about six to eight large film festivals each year from all over the world. It is a very well respected theater.

If the Quad is such a dreadful theater, why do they continue to do the business that they do. It is an extremely clean, well maintained and very well run theater.

Unfortunately this theater will never be the same if they continue to use non union, non professionals to run the booth. As you all have seen in these posts, the quality of presentation here is being destroyed. It will not change until the professional operators are put back in place. This is a fact. I have seen it happen for the last 10-15 years. This will continue to happen until enough people start to complain and stop going to these theaters. The theater owners do not care because people continue to go. If you are not satisfied with the presentation, demand your money back. This has to stop! Stop letting these people take advantage of the paying public.

I will have to find the newspaper article about it. If it wasn’t the first multiplex, then it was the first quad. I know that for sure. I’ll get back to everyone.

The Quad is the first theater to be a multiplex in the United States. It opened in the 70’s as a quad and continues. It still does very well, too. The only thing that has changed with the box office is that it is now closed in by glass.

It sound like the box office got robbed. I’ve been the projectionist there for 11 years now. They have been robbed about 3 or 4 times during that time. It’s very easy because the box office is so close to the exit.

Not to mention all the outsourcing. How many times have you called an american company for customer service and someone from India picks up. How many Seven Elevens are owned and run by americans. None that I have seen. Cheap labor. That’s what it’s all about. Nothing else. It does not matter how hard you work anymore. It’s all about money. Screw the customer. Give them a free pass to come back. They will just buy more popcorn and candy.

People do anything to save money. If they would just put a little money into the place, then maybe they would be doing better.

That could be so. Cineplex had their offices there when they ran it. This theater had most of the orignal equipment in operation when it closed.

Big theater chains don’t care about the customers anymore. If people complain, they get a free pass to come back. When they come back, they buy more candy and soda. That’s how it works now. It’s all about the money to them. I see it happening everywhere. People can write letters and complain all they want. It will not help. That is a FACT!!!!!

This question just came up the other day. I don’t know if there is a law thats states that the show must be shown. I was told that there is a law that you can not start the show earlier than the scheduled time. Again, I don’t know if it is true or not but supposedly someone sued because the the feature started before the scheduled time. In all of the theaters I have worked in, we would never run the show if it was empty.

Does anyone of another theater that was on Front Street a long time ago. It is now a furniture store.

It wasn’t a very bad job multiplexing it. I did the re-install back in 1998. The theaters were still pretty big. The two balcony theaters had 800-1000 seats each with a full stereo set up. The other theaters were all mono. Of course it was all old, used equipment. A few breakdowns but not too many. The building was just to big to maintain and heat. The owners rented the two balcony theaters to an indian guy to run indian movies. The indian movies did amazing business. The problem was the guy never paid the owner so he got kicked out. The calderone eventually was leased to another indian guy. It just didn’t work out.
