Ron: I don’t need a reason other than my increasing interest in theatres and in particular either Lamb or Eberson theatres so I’m sure I’ll find myself in Columbus sooner than later to see this Lamb ‘gem’!
This theatre has been demolished and a PNC Bank stands on that property! This information was sent to me via email from the Butler County Chamber of Commerce.
I have made contact with the Butler Chamber of Commerce and now the town’s historical society for photos, but would love to communicate with anyone who really can tell me more about this demolished theatre. A PNC Bank is on the location now! If so, my email is
It’s very interesting to read about this Butler Cinema and MOST INTERESTING to read about the Butler Theatre on a separate link as it was an Eberson/art deco theatre! If this theatre is still standing, this one MUST be saved if only for the fact that it was an Eberson theatre!
TC: Thanks for the photo!!! I took a digital photo while parked in front of the theatre! It’s really amazing that I even found it as I was looking to find a theatre on their main drag, but located the Rogers on Marion which is NOT main street!
I just visited Shelby today and accidentally came upon this theatre while visiting the historic area of downtown Shelby! I couldn’t believe the beautiful art deco facade on this theatre and didn’t realize it was listed on CT until I returned to my computer! I was so pleased to read what Ross has written and would like to learn more about this theatre to be restored!
Kevin: The only other CT theatre named Wintergarden seems to be in Sydney Australia so perhaps the Jamestown Wintergarden should be listed, too with whatever correct information can be included. Thanks.
Kevin: Email me at as I’d like to tell you about the Jamestown Forum where I have posted your Wintergarden Theatre remarks for past and present Jamestown residents to read and comment on.
It would be nice if the theatre offered guided tours.

TC: The link with photo is fantastic and I hope to find myself in the Columbus Ohio area this summer to have a look for myself!
I just met a gal who grew up in Mason City. She told me about this theatre and was so pleased to learn of it’s restoration and grand reopening!
The Butler Theatre has been torn down and a PNC Bank is at that location now! :–(
Would love to see a photo of this theatre!

The above theatre I speak of is the Butler not the Penn.

Yes, any further information on this theatre would be greatly appreciated!
Great idea, but would love to have the photo feature back either in place of or in addition to.
If you went to the Friends of the Uptown Social, please post your thoughts about this special evening for a special cause!
I'v tried contacting someone in Butler through the Chamber of Commerce to get more info on the Butler Theatre, but no response as yet!

Any photos, anyone?
Another theatre turned into a parking lot! When will this insanity STOP!?!
Chuck Parker: I can’t seem to bring up thecastletheater.com as I’d love to see the restoration photos!
The virtual tour of the Paramount is great!
Does anyone have a number to contact the volunteers who are restoring the art deco Rogers Theatre?
lostmemory: Do you know if Charles Benson of Wilson NC built other theatres?

Kevin: Thanks so much for your Winter Garden memories. From your description it sounds like the theatre was within the block and not on a corner.
