Glenwood: I guess the only reason why that’s still open is because some people like the $4.00 bargin price. Me and my Dad drove by the Glenwood back in October, and the place looked very, very, small.

Village Art: It’ll hang on for a long time, at least until they decide to sell the block to a developer.(you know it’s cooming sooner or later)

Village North: Same with V-Art except, Loyola students go here all the time. And the proposed theater development near Howard st went belly up a few years ago. A Dominick’s and other shops can be seen in the location where the theater was to open at. However, North could use a makeover. New seats, clean celling and bathroom would help I guess.

Lincoln Village: I think it’ll stay…for now. It’s only a matter of time before someone announces a theater nearby.

North Riverside: After going to the Showplace 14 nearby a few weeks ago, NR’s fate is sealed. Unless Village remodel it and add 6 screens like they said, expect it to close soon. BTW, Showplace 14’s bargin price before 6pm is $5.00, which is another nail it NR’s coffin.

Bloomingdale Court: An online pool game sounds fun. Hell, I take that bet. We all know it’s gone as soon as Century/Cinemark opens up at Stratford Sq.

Anyway, my money is on Bloomingdale or Lakehurst to be the next to go, with Lincoln Village and North Riverside being the next afterwards.

Paul:
Lakehurst, that very well might be the next to go! Marcus Gurnee 20 and the Gurnee Mills Mall is 10 minutes west from Lakehurst!. Plus, Hawthorne Center is about 20 minutes away which is where Kerasotes will open a Showplace 12. But, it’s a shock Lakehurst 12 is still open, it opened in 1974 in the Lakehurst parking lot with 3 screens. General Cinema expanded it to 5 screens in 1984. They later cut up and added some screens to make it to 12 by the time the 90’s came around. And from the people who’s been there since Village took over, it’s not a nice place at all. Rumor has it that Village ran a 35mm bootleg copy of some movie once.

I guess Village just ran another one into the ground. I wonder what theater they’ll close next?

Village Theatres, the corporation of broken promises.

Wow, maybe AMC should do the same. $8.00 for a bargin price is crazy.

River Oaks 1-6 is still around. Rivertree Court is now owned by Kerasotes, but may close when they open a 12 screen showplace at the nearby Hawthorne Mall. And Bloomingdale Court is still open by Village…at least until Century Theatres/Cinemark opens the 16 screener inside Stratford Square.

To a_projectionst: Cool, I would be glad to e-mail you regarding this place.

Because I’m low on cash right now, I might have to see Rocky Balboa here this week.

Yeah, the owners of Lansing Cinema 8 reopened River Oaks 1-6. I’ve seen two movies there since.

The 400 is now called the Village North. It houses 4 screens, two of them with stadium seating.

Humm, I ment to say, I found the theatre to be really great for a megaplex.

Also, I went to see “Deja Vu” here last Sunday for free. We caught the 10am showing and got free popcorn and free pop with it. We were in auditorium #7, which looks just like auditorium #1.

Here’s my info on Showplace @ Golf Mill.

found the theatre to be really great for a megaplex. The design is a departure from Kerasotes older designs, which is a good thing if you ask me. The box office and entrance is around the back of the mall. The entrance and ticket booth is very identical to River East, the lobby is very spacious and has a lot of cream color and a bit of brown in there(from what I can remember right now). The bathroom’s got a lot of toilets and stalls to make sure nobody has to wait. And now for the auditoriums: I was in theatre 1, one of the “big units”. The screen could’ve been a lot larger, but that could’ve cut into the parking spaces. The seats are indentical to River East(red cushion, black backs), except Showplace 12’s are a bit wider and longer. The walls have red and black drapes/padding with lights on them. The sound was perfect, just what I hoped for. “Happy Feet” was in theatre 2, the second “big unit”. Before we left, I snuck into #3, which was playing “let’s go to Prison”. That room is almost like a medium screen at Randhurst or River East.

All in all, I highly recomend it. It was worth the 30 miles we drove to get there. I will return. While it probably won’t hold up with the original Golf Mill’s huge screen and style, it’s a wonderfull replacement. More that what you could hope for in this day and age of shoeboxes being put up. I just wish the “big units” were a little bigger. But it’s okay though. But if the design of Showplace 16 @ Roosvelt Collection is anywhere near Shoplace @ Golf Mill’s, then that place is gonna rock. Now if Kerasotes could just give Webster Place the remodel it deverves…..But that’s for another story.

Oh well, I kinda knew that would be the outcome. Let me check out that city owned parking lot on 53rd & Lake Park, they said that could be ripe for a theater someday.

Anyway, what can anyone tell me about this soon-to be torn down theater? What was the lobby, layout, colors, screens and stuff like?

Oooh tell me, when should the remodel begin/end? I better get over there and snap photos of the old Webster Place while I still can.

Anymore updates about this place? Also, people should check out this photo: View link

Now it’s it just me or does that look like the theater and the restaurant next door may face(God I hope not) the wrecking ball? Something about that picture gives me bad feelings.

I just got a little choked up. That looks so attractive. I miss Water Tower, McClurg Court, Esquire and many other theaters in the area that I remember.

Now if only someone could post some photos of WT 1-4.

To Dakotaben: Do you know what auditoriums are the big screens? My Dad wants to see “Casino Royale” on one of the huge screens.

Oh, we drove by there today. For people who don’t know, the exterior is a large white/light brown building with red letters spelling out “Showplace”. It even has a mall entrance attached to it(which I saw people working on). All in all, I can’t wait for 11/17.

CinemarkFan commented about McClurg Court Cinemas on Oct 29, 2006 at 2:09 pm

My Plan to buy this place has been put on a big hold. Most of the investors I’ve talked to didn’t want to take a chance, “would be risky”, “would be this and that” etc… Hell, Baum Realty didn’t call me back. I don’t know what’s going on with this place now, but I promise everyone this, if I don’t ever reopen McClurg Court, I’ll try and build another art-house in the area with a huge screen like McClurg. Now I know my plans sound like a dream, but I do know that AMC will not give in to people’s demands to put more art fare at River East. They may show an art film here and there, but not enough like the Landmark Century for example.

Anyway, as long as they don’t gut this place and turn it into shops, I’m a happy camper. I love McClurg Court to death, and I’ll protest if they try and put a TJ Maxx or some shop in there.
