missmelbatoast commented about Springlake Cinema on May 1, 2011 at 1:20 am

I have been told that this building was originally a small cinema before conversion in the early ‘40s into Ride 'N Laff thrill ride (courtesy Springlake Photo Collection). This has not been confirmed.

In 1922 architects Tonini and Bramblet designed the Springlake Pavilion (AKA-Faryland, Casino) a combination cinema & ballroom. This c1930 image of the Faryland comes courtesy of Springlake Photo Collection.

Another theatre that utilized a “ramp system” to reach the balcony and fourth floor ballroom was the Hippodrome Theatre (a John Eberson design) located in Okmulgee, OK.

I didn’t realize that when the 09-09-07 Star Theatre picture was posted that Tulsa Library constantly changes images. Sorry!

When this was a cinema didn’t the building have a massive glassblock and neon tower?

missmelbatoast commented about Gem Theatre on Apr 4, 2011 at 7:17 pm

The Gem Theatre is quite a mystery. It and the former Theatorium must have been the same house. I’ve been told both cinemas used the Wright Bldg 4th floor auditorium but this has not been confirmed.

missmelbatoast commented about Rialto Theater on Apr 3, 2011 at 7:44 pm

HUGE mistake!!! Not Rialto pix. roadsideoklahoma made an error, above pictures are those of the Ray.
In its last days the Rialto looked more like an expensive Hollywood backlot set than a movie house.
Now razed, listing should be changed to demolished.
