The Rupert City Council approved the purchase of the 1920-built Wilson, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, in December of 1999.

It is estimated that it will cost $2.5 million to complete its restoration into a cultural arts center by November of 2005.

In September of 2001, a 1955 graduate of Rupert High School presented a check for $100,000 to the Wilson Theater Renaissance Art Center which is guiding the project. Other grants have also been applied for.

In January of 2002, the original scenic stage backdrop was found in the rafters in good condition. This backdrop will also be restored.

When the theatre stopped showing movies in 1985 it was operated by Harris-Voeller Theatres.

This photo claims to be the Wilson Theater in 1984. You decide.

I saw "The Alamo" here. The 1960 version with John Wayne. The most recent photo above is of when it was "Screwerized," a 1970s affliction common to many old theaters that wanted to look hip. Like bell bottoms and polyester shirts and high-heel boots on a 70-year-old man.
