The theatre opened November 10, 1995. The largest auditorium seated 325. The first theatre in Bakersfield to be certified for THX. The next largest auditorium seated 275 and the other four seated 150 each.

The theatre was doomed by the multiplexes and in 1999 switched to sub-run bargain prices. The Bernard Street closed on June 16, 2000 and is now home to a church.
