The Majestic Theatre opened on September 2, 1907. It was located on South Illinois Street and West Maryland Street. Seating was orchestra - 675, first balcony - 500 and second balcony - 500. The theatre became the Broadway Theatre on December 25, 1919 and the Mutual Theatre on October 31, 1926.

As the Majestic Theatre it was a vaudeville house and in 1926 it was part of the Mutual Burlesque chain. It later went on to feature movies. The theatre closed and was demolished in June 1955.

My birth parents both worked at this theatre in the 1950s before it was demolished…father was a burlesque comedian, Richard Nelson Luke…mother was dancer, only knew her as the Indianapolis News old clipping advertised her as “the gorgeous Patty Lynn”…if anyone knows any information on this era or them, I’d love pics, stories, etc. I was adopted and only know bits and pieces…would like to know mother’s maiden name. Thanks for the pictures. I had never been able to find anything about the theatre!
