The Roxy Theater was opened on June 9, 1938 with Constance Bennett in “Merrily We Live”. By 1950 it was operated by the Nashville, TN based Crescent Amusement Co. It was closed by the mid-1960’s and converted into municipal office space. It had a picture of it in it’s younger days taped to the window, but that is the only info I know about it.

It is fairly large, and has a cool design. I could see the ticket booth inside, but its design prevented me from seeing if the auditorium was still intact.

According to Bowers' “Encyclopedia” page 551, there was a “Liberty” theatre in Franklin equipped with a Reproduco organ made by the Operators Piano Co. I could not find a page for the Liberty, so I am putting this here for the time being.

RE the Roxy: Where can we see a picture of this building? When was this building put up for sale? How can interested parties contact the seller?

I have lived in Franklin my entire life and remember the stories my grandmother would tell of she and her friends going to the picture show every weekend. It is a dream of me and my brothers to one day renevate this currently “for sale” building. If any one knows of any financial backing or anyone interested in this investment I would appreciate any help I can get. The site with a picture is www.fsrenaissance.com/sale.html

I have lived in Franklin all my life and it is a huge dream of mine to own this building and restore it to its original beauty. I have been in the building several times and I know that it still has the original stage, curtain, the screen is tore to shreds and falling down, but it still has the original art deco on the walls, and the original ceiling. However, it is all in need of complete restoration. I am seeking donations to help save this building and a part of Franklin, KYs history. If anyone is interested please email me at the following I am also in the process of getting a trust set up in the Roxys name for the building. Please help SAVE THE ROXY!!!

Well, the Roxy of Franklin is getting another chance. New owners have bought the old girl, and are looking into ways to make her a living building with businesses and an ongoing part of the community. There is even a very basic website now. http://www.roxyoffranklin.com When you get a chance, please check it out.
