Built and opened around 1938, it was soon taken over by Wometco Theatres and the Ace Theatre was listed as an African-American theatre until at least 1955.
The Ace Theatre stands boarded up in 2021. In January 2022 approval was given for the theatre to be renovated.

The description of this theatre fails to mention that it was built to service the Afro-Caribbean community of Coconut Grove and often ran stage shows along with the films. It operated from the mid-fifties through to the late seventies playing mostly late run double features.
According to The Miami Herald movie timeclock there was another Ace somewhere in Homestead from 1966-1973.

Cool, I’m glad it won’t be torn down and there are plans to do something with it.
I remember years ago being pleasantly surprised to find an old closed movie theater behind some trees that had grown enough at the time to obscure the Ace signs when I was driving past one day. I’ve since enjoyed glancing at it to see if anything had yet changed whenever I’ve been through the area.
Wometco’s recent acquisition of the Ace Theatre at Coconut Grove was noted in the November 19, 1938 issue of Boxoffice.
After decades of dormancy, the Ace Theatre has received funds from the National Parks Service History of Equal Rights grants program to begin restoration!
