The Film Theatre opened in 1974 in a purpose built cinema auditorium. It is situated on Staffordshire University’s College Road campus, and is independent of the University and open to the general public.

Programming consists of independent and foreign films in their original languages and mainstream films, usually tending to be films not given a wide release. The policy is to not screen advertisments or trailers in the programme. It is staffed by volunteers.
