The Ritz Cinema opened in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. It is listed in 1980 with a seating capacity of 700, and had a stage.

It was closed in 1992. Located adjacent to the Railway Hotel, in late-1995, the hotel applied for permission to demolish the Ritz Cinema, to enable an extension to the hotel to be built. However, this didn’t happen immediately and another proposal was planned for construction to begin in Spring/Summer of 2001.

Again, nothing has happened and the building sits vacant and unused in August 2008.
