Cosy Cinema

Located in Nelson, near Caerphilly, the Cosy Cinema was operating prior to 1937. It had a 26 feet wide proscenium. I never saw this cinema but had many dealings with it during the late-1950’s whilst I was employed at Warner Pathe. The cinema possessed a Mr. Black whom I believe was either the manager or the owner. Office staff would go into an instant panic if the phone rang and the voice at the other end said "This is Mr. Black, Cosy Nelson".

The Cosy Cinema was very particular about the standard of the prints it hired so we were always careful to put a print through the repair room if its next showing would be at Nelson. Unfortunately this was not always possible if an in demand print was doing a direct FTS cinema to cinema cross over and not travelling via the Cardiff vault.

The Cosy Cinema was still operating in 1966, but had closed by 1980.
