The Gem Theatre opened in the early-1930’s with seating listed at 485. The Gem Theatre catered to African American clientel. The theatre was operated by Jefferson Amusement Co. & East Texas Theatres.

The Gem Theatre closed in the 1950’s and has since been demolished.
