Gem Theater

The Gem Theatre opened on December 1, 1934 with Barbara Stanwyck in “Gambling Lady” & Lane Chandler in “Guns for Hire”. The seating capacity was listed at 485. The Gem Theatre catered to African American clientele. The theatre was operated by Jefferson Amusement Co. & East Texas Theatres.

The Gem Theatre closed in the 1950’s and has since been demolished.

Newspapers started to mention the Gem theatre in 1934. No grand opening ads found.
