The 1930 built State Theatre burned in 1959, and the Flame Theatre replaced it. Seating was given at 430.
The city of Wells took over operations of the theatre in 1990. The city has maintained the theatre well, adding a wide screen, comfortable seats and recently added Digital Sound. The theatre now seats 304. Prices are family friendly and concessions are very reasonable. A family of four can attend a movie for ten dollars, including concessions. For a small town of a little over 2,700 the theatre draws better than twenty thousand patrons a year.
