Cine Metro-Passeio

Located in the central district of Rio de Janeiro known as Cinelandia, and close to the Cine Palacio. The Cine Metro-Passeio was one of three cinemas in the city that were operated by Loew’s Inc./MGM, the others being the Cine Metro-Tijuca in the Tijucana district and the Cine Metro-Copacabana.

The Cine Metro-Passeio was opened by Loew’s Inc. on 30th September 1936. It was demolished in the mid-1960’s and in 1969 Loew’s Inc. built the Cine Metro-Boavista on the site.

The text is in Portuguese, but this web page features several interior photos of the Cine-Metro Passeio, a rendering of the exterior, floor plans, and a cross section of the building, all of which will be of interest to theater fans whether they can read the text or not.
