The New Picture House Broadstairs

The Cinema opened in 1912 with 750-seats in stalls & circle levels. It was re-named Picture House in the early-1930’s when ‘talkies’ arrived at the cinema with the installation of a British Thompson-Houston(BTH) sound system. In 1950 it was taken over by the Highlands Development Trust and was re-named New Picture House. The cinema was originally equipped with a sliding roof and the seating was reduced to 650. Sadly the Picture House was closed on 17th February 1962 after serving the town faithfully for fifty years.

Later demolished, a Tesco Supermarket was built on the site, which later became a Poundland store.
