Located in the South Hurstville suburb of Sydney. The Paramount Theatre was opened on 4th October 1934. Seating was provided on a single level, with a raised stepped section at the rear. It was operated by Western Suburbs Cinemas Ltd. In June 1950, it was taken over by Hoyts Theatres chain and re-named Hoyts South Hurstville.
The Hoyts South Hurstville was closed on 11th April 1959 with “Me and the Colonel” and “The Flying Scot”. It was converted into a supermarket, followed by a recreation centre.
It operated as the Civic Video rental store which had closed by 2017. There is a gymnasium at the rear of the building (possibly on the former stage?)
