Hoyts Southern Cross

Located in the Neutral Bay district of Sydney. The Southern Cross Theatre was opened in 1921, with seating for in stalls & circle levels for 1,609. It was taken over by Hoyts in 1930, and was modernised in an Art Deco style in the mid-1930’s.

The Hoyts Southern Cross Theatre was closed in early-December 1959. It was converted into a skating rink, but this only last a short while.

In 1960, it was converted into The Music Hall, a live theatre presenting melodrama. This was a huge success and continued until 6th September 1980, when the high cost of renovations forced its closure. The building was soon demolished.
