The Olympia in April 2007

Located in the centre of Wolverhampton. The Olympia Cinema was a conversion by architect Joseph Lavender of the Thornley Street Odd-Works factory. It opened on 14th March 1910. It had a 30ft wide proscenium. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric (WE) sound system. By 1944 it was operated by the C.S. Joseph Circuit.

It was closed on 9th July 1960 with Jeanne Moreau in “Lift to the Scaffold” and Fellini’s “Cabiria”.

In recent years it has operated as the Planet nightclub.
