The miniplex Ster Century Cinemas in the eastern Slovak town Spisska Nova Ves is together with Ster Century Cinemas Prievidza one of the newest multi-screen theaters in the Slovak Republic (as of June 2012).
It opened on 5th April 2012 as a part of the third extension of the Madaras Shopping Center. This mall is a brownfield investment that uses former textile factory buildings and new building additions. With 36,000 square meters leasable area and 76 business units it is the largest shopping center in the region Spiš. Given that it is a poorer region and a smaller town, no anchor tenants settled here down.
Ster Century Spisska Nova Ves has three screens and a total capacity of 474 seats, including two places for wheelchair users in each auditorium. The largest hall has a capacity of 217 seating opportunities and its screen is 3D-capable. The two smaller halls have 117 and 140 seats and at present are full digital but not 3D-capable.
The investment was likely not very successful. Barely a month after its opening the program leaflets reported that the theater is preparing a substantial reduction in prices. With effect from 31 May 2012 the operator reduced prices in this site. General admission for adults has dropped from 7 Euros to 6 Euros, what means a decrease of almost 15 percent. With further discounts on Monday and Tuesday, in Spisska Nova Ves is the most affordable multi-screen cinema in Slovakia.
Like in its other theaters, Ster Century Cinemas uses in Spisska Nova Ves Dolby cinema servers, Barco projectors and the most modern Dolby Digital 7.1 audio system. The largest auditorium has the Dolby 3D-technology installed.
The main suppliers for the miniplex are the German PCO Group for refreshments in the cafeteria, the Coca Cola Company for beverages and Cinemaware for electronic tickets ordering.
