Gem Cinema

The Temperance Hall, which had been built in 1905, opened as a cinema on 22nd December 1911. It seemed only to show films in the winter but later became a full-time cinema known as the Temperance Hall Pictures.

It was renamed Gem Cinema on 28th August 1960 and closed on 12th June 1962 with “300 Spartans”. It had a BTH sound system and a proscenium with of 24ft.

It was later used for bingo. The premises today house a dance studio.
