Located in Heywood, Lancashire on the even numbered side of Market Street, backing onto Dawson Street. The Hippodrome Theatre presented variety shows and pantomimes. By 1914 it had been converted into the Gem Picture Palace and had a 16 feet wide proscenium.

The Gem Picture House was redecorated in March 1930 and was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system. It was soon taken over by the H.D. Moorhouse circuit. It was closed in 1948.

It was then used for storage, and later the front of the building became a cafĂ©. In the 1970’s the building was deemed unstable and the roof was sagging. It was demolished in 1978.
