The Ryan can be traced back to 1911 in the archives of the Fresno Bee.
An article in the Fresno Bee on May 19, 1931 said that the Ryan Theatre was converting to sound and making other improvements at a cost of $10,000. The house was refinished inside and outside with the addition of a new marquee.
The Bee published a story in 1962 that the police were seeking the identity of a man who died there while watching a movie. This was the last mention of the Ryan found in the Bee until 1967. In 1967 a Bee article on the revitalization of old buildings in Chinatown said that the Ryan was “already gone.”
The other theatres in Chinatown were the Lyceum, the Cal and the still existing Azteca.
