The Ritz Theatre was opened in 1938 By V.E. Hamm when he moved the first Texan Theatre to a new location on Indiana Street. In 1940 Mr. Hamm sold the Ritz Theatre, Roxy Theatre and Texan Theatre to Jack McCollum and Bob Montgomery.

A theatre at this location goes back to April 10, 1926 when Lavelle Ford opened the Queen Theatre after renovating a former leather goods shop. The Wichita Daily Times noted that the Queen Theatre would show comedies and westerns, with the first attraction being Tom Mix in “The Foreman of Bar Z". Later short-term names included Melba Vitaphone Theatre in 1930 and the Folly Theatre in 1932.

The Ritz Theatre dropped out of the local theatre listings in 1952 but continued to be used for public meetings. Film Daily Year Book 1946 lists the Ritz Theatre with 500 seats.
