Odeon Cinema

Located in Newbridge, County Kildare. Owned by Mr Cecil Sylvester-Carr in later years, the Odeon was not one of the branded Odeons but one of a few independents operating in the Republic. It had 600 seats and a Western Electric(WE) sound system fitted, and seems to have survived with little or no advertising. It is first listed in the Kine Year Book of 1942 and still listed in the 1971 edition. A report of a fire in the boiler room in 1971 describes the cinema, rather ambiguously, as empty at the time.

The building is now home to retail outlets and a Chinese restaurant upstairs.
