Located in Whitefield, to the south of Bury, Lancashire. The Palace Picture Theatre was opened by 1914 when it was operated by former music hall strongman George Testo Sante. In 1932 it was operated by the J.F. Emery Circuit. They only operated it for one year. It programmed pictures and variety. It was closed in January 1936 when the new Mayfair Cinema was built and opened adjacent to it.

However, the Mayfair Cinema was destroyed by fire in April 1941, and the Palace Picture Theatre was immediately re-opened. It was renamed Mayfair Junior Cinema by 1954.

A new Mayfair Cinema was built and opened in June 1956 and the Palace Picture Theatre/Mayfair Junior Cinemna was closed.

The 1954 Kinematograph Yearbook, shows the Palace (renamed Mayfair Junior) operating with 600 seats and a 28ft wide screen. I believe that the new Mayfair, designed by Joseph Gomersall, opened in June 1956, and this is when the ‘Junior’ - ex Palace - would have closed.
