Ted Davis launched the West Theatre on December 28, 1940 with Deanna Durbin in “It’s a Date” supported by curated shorts. It was created in the 20-year old Dietrich Building. The opening was delayed somewhat by steel shortages.

During World War II, the theatre came under H.J. Griffith Theatres Circuit along with the Kansan Theatre and the Parsons Theatre. It was active in War Bond and other wartime drives. After the War, Griffith dropped the theatre. However, operators George and Viola M. Wadlington steered the theatre to closure in the 1950’s. It became home to the Farm Bureau for a period of time retaining its marquee.

Fire destroyed the building on February 18, 1974. The building had been targeted for urban renewal and this hastened its demise.
