Princess Theatre

The 1913 Sanborn shows a theatre operating in an old commercial building north of the square. The structure dated to sometime before 1887, and was a typical commercial building of that era, deep and narrow, two stories of brick with a stone front.

All older maps show this as a saloon. The building sloped toward the rear to only 1 story. This was likely a fairly basic conversion to compete for audiences in the early days of the movie craze. The building was the third from the corner, the two southern neighbors being tiny little shacks.

Later maps are not available online, but the corner is now occupied by an office building that may be from the 1970’s or 1980’s.
