There doesn’t seem to be much information on this cinema but I know it was built in 1913 and was a cinema till 1960.

In 1956, was the scene of a riot, during a showing of “Rock Around the Clock” when Teddy boys jived in the aisles and slashed seats. After closure, it became a bingo hall and, more recently, a snooker hall. I have played snooker there and it seems in good condition.

If anyone can shed any light on the history of this gem it would be very welcome.

Opened as the Princess Picture Theatre with 700 seats. The proprietor was W.B. Holt. Later it was operated by Ashton New Theatre Ltd and became part of the H.D.Moorehouse circuit. Its final years were under the operation of Orr Enterprises Ltd of Coventry.
