New Regal Cinema

Located next to the Miners Hall (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures) in Wheatley Hill, County Durham. The New Regal Cinema was opened on 19th September 1938. It was operated by D.R.C Cinemas of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It was equipped with a Western Electric (WE) sound system. It was still open in 1963, but had closed by 1966 and converted into a bingo club. By 2007 it was in use as a supermarket. Today it is occupied by the Co-Op Funeralcare.
