Living Room Cinema

In Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, the Living Room Cinema opened on Friday 14th July 2023 with a special presentation of “Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning”, starring Tom Cruise. The invited-guests only screening was in aid of local charity Thrive North Ox, which supports children and families in North Oxfordshire.

The following day “Mission: Impossible” was joined by director Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City”, Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and children’s favourite “The Little Mermaid”.

The cinema’s founder was Claire Beswick, a native of Liphook, Hampshire, who, having been involved with several cinema circuits, including Odeon and Curzon, had been determined to bring a full-time cinema to her home town. So, gathering together a group of senior industry executives, she realised her dream when the Living Room Cinema in Liphook opened in April 2022.

That is housed in the former Anchor Garage: In Chipping Norton, she brought the former Harpers homewares and DIY store, which had traded for some 40 years before closing in 2016, back to life.

Seating capacities are Screen 1:37 and Screen 2:48. In both the front row seating is reclining ‘Living Room Loungers’, complete with foot-rests, while the rear rows are four two-seater sofas.

There is also a café/bar, which is open all day for patrons and the general public.
