Rosebud Cinema and Drafthouse set to reopen
WAUWATOSA, WI — The Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse is reopening this week after a half year of renovations. Under new ownership, the refreshed theatre plans to feature some new undisclosed amenities.

Digital conversion threatens Madison theatre
MADISON, IN — They’ve been up and running since 1938 but the Ohio Theatre’s days could be numbered if they don’t convert to digital. The owners are hoping to raise money for the project but with the estimates starting at $85K, they have a steep hill to climb.

Downtown Eugene slated to get new quad art cinema
EUGENE, OR — The owners of the Bijou Arts Cinemas are overflowing with films to show so they’re building a new theater. The downtown four-screen art house, to be called the Bijou Metro, should allow them to schedule earlier matinees and provide a new entertainment option for the area.

Phoenix Big Cinemas picks up two greater Pittsburgh area megaplexes
PITTSBURGH, PA — Destina is exiting the Pittsburgh market and Phoenix Big Cinemas is swooping in to takeover their theaters in Bridgeville and at the Pittsburgh Plaza East. They plan to upgrade the facilities with digital projection, new concession options and a more sophisticated web ticketing platform.

Owners shocked as Catlow theater reaches $100,000 goal in 7 days
BARRINGTON, IL — With so many theaters around the world struggling to make the digital transition, the owner of the Catlow Theatre thought he would have a mountain to climb to raise the $100,000 he needed to do it. That wasn’t the case as the beloved theatre reached its goal through a Kickstarter campaign in less than a week.

Sundance Cinemas to open in late August
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — The former Sunset 5 will reopen on August 31. The gutted theatre will now feature reserved stadium seating and they’re kicking it off with some special engagements.

Luxury IPic Theaters coming to Westwood’s Avco Center
LOS ANGELES, CA — The former AMC Avco is being converted into a luxury IPic theater. It will feature six screens, reserved seating and a full onsite restaurant.

WILMINGTON, DE — A lawsuit filed by Norfolk Southern Railway almost halted the construction of the Riverfront Multiplex. A potential additional parking garage that would have affected active train tracks was nixed following the lawsuit.

New small cinema in downtown Westport moves closer to reality
WESTPORT, CT — Westport has been without a cinema since 1999 but a loyal group called the Westport Cinema Initiative is getting closer to filling that void. They are close to securing a piece of land for a potential art-house theatre.

Alamo to takeover New Mission
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — San Francisco is getting its first Alamo Drafthouse and even better, in the long-shuttered New Mission Theater. The theatre will be converted into a five-screen with all auditoriums featuring the typical Alamo dining amenities.
