Karlsruhe, Germany - “50 YEARS OF TODD-AO” Festival
KARLSRUHE, GERMANY — During October 7th – 9th a festival called “50 YEARS OF TODD – AO” will be held at the SCHAUBURG Cinerama cinema in Karlsruhe, Germany.
New 70mm prints of HELLO DOLLY, THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES, PATTON, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, 2001 – A SPACE ODYSSEY and vintage 70mm prints of RYANS DAUGHTER, MY FAIR LADY and AIRPORT will be shown during the festival.
The SCHAUBURG Cinerama goes back to 1906 and still has the curved screen and the ambiente from the 1960’s, when it was reconstructed to a single lens Cinerama theatre.
All films are shown in the Original English versions, except the vintage prints, which were German dubbed language versions.

“Reception At The Loew’s Paradise”
BRONX, NY — The Bronx Museum of the Arts will be hosting discussions on the Grand Concourse as well as walking tours of the area this Saturday. The closing reception will be held at the Loew’s Paradise theatre (The Bronx NYC). It will be fantastic. I shall be there with friends and neighbors.

Special guests: Joseph Nocerino (ran for city councilman), historian Bill Safka, as well as other preservationists, community residents, & possible FH celebrities. Members of The Committee To Save The Trylon Theater will be present, & will discuss methods of saving this ‘39 World’s Fair gem from further demolition, & possible landmarking.

PCA To Host World Premiere Of “Fatty” Arbuckle Films On October 1st
PEEKSKILL, NY — The Paramount Center for the Arts (PCA) continues its acclaimed Music&Film Series on Saturday, October 1st, 2005 at 8PM, with the World Premiere of Dave Douglas & Keystone Project’s original jazz score to the films of Roscoe “Fatty”? Arbuckle. Following the performance, there will be a brief Q&A session with Mr. Douglas.
The Paramount Center for the Arts received a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts Commissioning Grant to commission acclaimed jazz trumpeter/composer and Croton, NY-resident Dave Douglas to compose four original scores to accompany four early silent films of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, one of America’s earliest and funniest movie stars.
Dave Douglas' original pieces, performed with his new sextet Keystone, invoke the humor drama, tragedy and hilarity of Arbuckle’s films and his life. The new electric scores performed with Keystone Project are meant to capture the atmosphere of Arbuckle’s early comedies – warm, funny, funky, and experimental in their freshness. Says Mr. Douglas of his decision to score Arbuckle’s earliest works, “Of all the silent films I watched, these films seemed to have the fastest pace, most suited to the modern eye and ear. I could imagine modern music with them, and it seemed they had not been approached much in that way.”?

Visit the Uptown Theatre in Chicago This Saturday!
CHICAGO, IL — Don’t forget! Uptown neighbors and fans of the Uptown entertainment district are encouraged to help make history by posing for a classic photograph in front of the neighborhood’s namesake historic theater at noon Saturday, Aug. 20, at Broadway and Lawrence.
Marc Smith, internationally acclaimed poet and creator of the Uptown Poetry Slam at the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, will emcee the event. Actors from the Quest Theatre Ensemble and the Annoyance Theatre Company are scheduled to entertain passersby on the street.
The free, rain-or-shine “Uptown Community Portrait 2005” event celebrates the community and the 80th anniversary of the historic Uptown Theatre, 4816 N. Broadway. The theater has been closed since 1981 and is in serious need of significant private investment for it to be renovated as an entertainment venue.
The goal of the “Uptown Community Portrait 2005” is to create a high-quality color photograph of the event, duplicating historical views of the theater’s opening day in 1925 and the “Uptown Community Portrait 2000.” More than 300 neighbors and fans turned out for the event in 2000. Sponsored by the Uptown Chicago Commission, the Uptown Community Development Corporation, Friends of the Uptown, and Compass Rose Cultural Crossroads, the 2005 community portrait will be used in publications and advertisements to represent the people and buildings of the now-ascendant district. Noted Chicago architectural photographer Bob Nick will capture the picture from a perch on a scaffold across the street from the theater.
