the outer theatres opened the same time as the mall in september of 1977. in february of 1981, the inner theatres opened, making both theatres into the first megaplex in the us.

When I used to go to the library in Clifton, they had a great collection of microfiche NY Times issues dating back to the time when the Clifton Library opened and kept stock of the paper. The website of the times has articles relating to theaters from 1989 onward for free, and is the best source for local cinema news as other local sites charge you to pay for the articles. Google’s news archive section is a must if you want to search movie listings from ‘95 to '07.

Just went to see “Cloverfield”, at 4:45…the film reels started 2 minutes late following the looped AMC moviewatcher ending; some girl wearing a biker helmet wanted to exchange the popcorn for some candy and I said no, which is a good thing since this theater is usually packed with nobodies and somewhat rowdy teens. The movie was ok but the sound was earth-shakingly good. After the movie was over, me and my dad went over to Fatburger and used the ticket stub for 10% off of a meal, which was a good thing since the Panera right next to it was packed. The only downside? Too much previews before a short movie. I’m amazed at how many indie films are playing at this theater…now only if the new IMAX digital screen will increase attendance!!!

I agree with you. For the second time last year it was used as the backdrop for the Heisman trophy awards. For those who watch it on ESPN, most sports fans don’t know that this concert hall was once a movie theater. The only Loews 1 screener left is the one on 72nd street. Too bad the theater didn’t show the Star Wars prequels, leaving that job to the Ziegfeld. Next year marks the 35th anniversary of this theater and the 5th of it becoming a decent concert hall. BTW, what became of the Loews memorablia?

When SDDS was introduced, probably the 8 channel version was shown in the largest auditorium in each complex. As of right now, SDDS is discontinued and replaced with Dolby Digital Surround EX.

The town where this theater is located was once the home of the hq of the loews theater chain. After the cineplex merger, it currently resides in NY. Pretty soon this theater, as well as the 8 plex, will be closed once the new xanadu complex opens later this year. This theater is located not too far from Channel 9, the only commercial TV station in New Jersey.

this theater, as well as all former loews houses, will not show screenvision ads, just the amc first look that every other AMC theater has. They still use the fandango service, which is more expensive than moviefone/movietickets. Plus the theater has been kind of run down according to reviews I read on consumer sites. It’s time for AMC to put stadium seating and digital projection in this former great theater, the first modern Passaic County multiplex, much the same way that it did with the Monmouth Mall theater, which is expected to get IMAX digital projection.

Checking the recent movie listings, AMC didn’t have advance tickets for Cloverfield; only Clearview has the advantage. Too bad they won’t show the u23d and hanna montana movies….this theater will get a different kind of digital system in the form of an HD version of Imax which will increase business at this theater, which is doing quite well. BTW, when will the IMAX equipment be installed? I can’t wait, probably have to save my AMC gift cards for those flicks!!! I hope 2 see the new batman in that format.

This weekend, National Treasure is still playing in DLP, that is, until Cloverfield comes out. That film was shot on Panavision Genesis cameras, which were the same equipment used to film Superman Returns and Click. Panavision Genesis is the HD version of Panavision and can be transferred to regular film as well as digital projection. The Hannah Montana concert movie will be the next 3d film playing at this theater, but not U23D.

This coming February there will be two 3d movies coming out. THe first is the 3d version of the hanna montana concert and then in a few weeks it will be U2-3D. As of right now, there is no digital film release this weekend.

this coming spring the classics will return, I found it out via the website….recently i went to this theater attending a showing of National Treasure: Book of Secrets in the DLP auditorium, which is in theater #9. The presentation was flawless, although I recommend sitting back for maximum clarity. The projection was provided by Technicolor Digital, which is the same company that will install more clearview cinemas other than this one and parsippany with the same equipment. BTW, are the screens capable of projecting 4k?

there was a post on the old clifton quad about how this theater does a bad rap about aspect ratios. it wont be long before clearview closes smaller theaters like this one and keep its larger ones open.

since the theater got bought out by amc, new management has replaced the older team. my friend gypsy, who works for mcarp, used to get free movie passes since she used to work for miramax, but not anymore! btw, has amc replaced all 12 screens with dolby digital rather than sdds?

just went to see golden compass in one of the small screens, number 5, this past saturday at 1:30 and during the film’s darker scenes the light from the projection room appeared on the right of the screen. i sat in a seat near the front and the picture was ok.

Today I got a $100 bill from my mom for xmas…enough to buy me a ticket for the show. When it comes to the xmas show, i’d rather be with other people rather than being alone in a big theater.

thankfully this theater wasn’t at a mall where there was a near-fatal stabbing of a shopper by a victim, as local news have been reporting this past week or two. Sadly, an elderly shopper was killed by a passing car near the parking lot of the Macy’s wing. Most of the traffic around the Paramus area on a Sunday have been due to the movies and restaurants in Paramus. Too bad there’s no Fuddrucker’s near the 16-plex. I think this theater is the luxury car of movie theaters in North Jersey and is visited by more moviegoers than Rockaway and Clifton Commons combined. Plus, this theater has more seats and bigger auditoriums plus higher prices.
