I’d like to know why whenever I receive an e-mail that someone has responded to a comment I’ve made about this theater I find only my comments listed here.

Since they have been remodeled prices were raised yesterday. Before 11:50 AM it’s now $6.49 which is okay but afternoon matinees are now $11.49 adult, $9.99 child or senior. Evening is now $12.99 and of course extra for 3-D.

Theater 1 appears to be the big seating screen with 105. I’d swear screens 1 & 6 used to have the same seating capacity before the renovation.

I remember going there in 1980 for a sneak preview of “Altered States” in December. I went to the ticket window and the ticket seller said “Merry Christmas” and let me in free.

Theater reopens tomorrow evening. Norm of the North opens there. There are 2 rejects from Fresh Meadows,Concussion and Joy plus 3 films that played here before, Brooklyn, Spotlight and the Big Short, perfect I guess after the Academy Award nominations. It looks per Fandango’s listing that only 5 screens are playing at the moment. The films have later showings during the week, more on par with the summer and holidays. I think their schedules will resemble last year, smaller releases and older films. It will look more packed though.

After writing the above the theater is closed to January 15 for more renovations they (AMC) know we will love.

That should be the Big Short.

They’ve redone theaters 4 to 6 and I’ve been in 6 to see Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Big Shirt. Theater 6 now sits 98 (it used to list 300 capacity) and I counted the smaller screens which have only 46 seats now as opposed to I think it was 140. These screens have got to be the smallest capacity in Queens. I think with the limited seating they will continue on their merry way of the last few years of opening films with limited interest on the bigger screens and still have moveovers from Fresh Meadows on the small. I could be wrong I hope.

As of today Monday October 19, only theaters 1, 2 & 3 are open. Screens 4 to 6 are closed for conversion to the leather laid back seats that AMC has in Fresh Meadows and are going into Roosevelt Field. This half of the theater should be finished by December when 1 to 3 will close for the same period and all work is expected to be done by February. This per their afternoon manager who was there when I went to the 1 PM showing of Bridge of Spies (highly recommended). They got rid of the Martian and Hotel Transylvania which are also in Fresh Meadows and the Intern. Outside of Bridge of Spies the other 2 open screens are playing moveovers from Fresh Meadows, the Walk, Black Mass and The Perfect Man. I wonder if we will get more first run films now (I would think so). Will we still get moveovers. While Fresh Meadows was renovating they still had new films open, albeit fewer. Bay Terrace was more active at the time.

The comments are based on Fandango’s listings for this theater as of Friday July 24th (Inside Out). The pricing I listed is for Fresh Meadows, not Bay Terrace. I was pointing out how outrageous the prices are for sister complex Fresh Meadows where everything goes and where they max out the 3D showings. The non chain theaters around say Douglaston, Flushing, even Glen Cove usually only show 1 or 2 showings a day of films in 3D with the rest normal.

I’m not against the Korean films, it’s the lack of regular ones. Mostly we get outside a few in their first week, the older films when they are kicked out of the fancier sister theater in Fresh Meadows. To top it off they brought Inside Out back in its 6th weekend, on 2 screens!!!

No new films except a Korean one the last 2 weeks and ripoff Fresh Meadows getting everything. A couple of weeks ago they lowered the prices on pre noontime showings to $5.49/ Fresh Meadows has raised nighttime to $16.99 + $4 for 3D (almost every showing is always in 3D) to $20.99.

Only 1 major release this month here, Hot Pursuit and it hasn’t done too well at the box office.

So 6 weekends after they got “American Sniper” they have yet to have any further first run releases. Being surrounded by Regal’s Midway and Atlas Mall doesn’t help; I’m sure that chain has first dib on all new releases.

If the theater closes after today as they say the owner rejected a 6 month stay the final pictures to play there are, The Interview, Annie, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tombs, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, Top 5 and Penguins of Madagascar.

For the first time in the 17 Christmas seasons I have lived here we are not getting any new releases for the season. Into the Woods and Unbroken, the final wide releases of 2014 are also opening in Fresh Meadows which got Annie, Night at the Museum and The Hobbit this past weekend. Maybe we will join the Sunnyside on January 4 and close also. At least they got last week’s openers. Even the Cinemart which I passed by today is advertising a first run, American Sniper coming in January 16. We used to get every musical (except for “Rent”) but both over there at the sister. Maybe we’ll become a T.J.Maxx like the American in Parkchester, the Barnes and Nobles by St. John'’s and the Borders at the Atlas mall.

According to Fandango there are senior rates still and lower rates for kids. Kids rate at night is $13.29.

Back on June 3rd I made comments about the price rises and how frequent they were. Today I went to “Fury” here and before 11:55 AM the prices are $8.99. Not even a rounded up dollar. The evening showings are now $15.99, $19.99 with 3D. The theater is crowded too at these prices as opposed to say the one in Glen Cove, recently renovated and only $6 till 5 PM. That theater hardly as anyone there, biggest recent crowd I saw was 11 for the Equalizer opening week. Flushing Main Street charges $5 for the first show and it never really has many people. The girl taking the tickets told the couple in front of me that there was no more senior discount either.

Rather strange but I thought I’d mention it here. This doesn’t usually happen but back to back times is unusual. Monday I went to A Walk Among the Tombstones in the AMC Fresh Meadows theater and since they were having sound difficulties they gave everyone in attendance a pass for a free movie. Now today at the Glen Cove theater I go the Maze Runner and the film freezes (!!!). Actually it was a 2 second clip repeating over and over. Anyway they fixed it and the woman who runs the concession stand tracked me down in the theater and gave me a free pass for a movie at any of their 4 cinemas. I mean this happened back to back visits at different theaters. Still sad about the attendance here. The Maze Runner, #1 this weekend with about 32 mil had only me as a customer at the 1:15 PM showing.

I have been here 3 times since it has reopened and it is a very nice place and cheaply priced, only $6 for matinees till 5 o'clock. I worry about their attendance too. My wife and me saw “The Other Woman” there opening week, 6 people 1st afternoon showing. We saw “Million Dollar Arm” there opening week, same first showing weekday, 2 people. Today I went by myself to “A Million Ways to Die in the West” and I was the only person there. I remember in their former life say up to 2012 they used to open later in the day I guess because of this. Yes I know when the kids are out of school it shoukd do better, but still it’s sad. Every time we go to the cinema in Malverne on a weekday it’s always packed, I guess a different audience. But if one goes to the Kew Gardens theater on a weekday in a much more populous area showing the same types of movies as Malverne, the attendances are quite sparse.
