I hope you’re right Robert and I agree- it’s a shame Arclight snags everything from them-sure would be nice to see Skyfall there. I’ve seen many Bond films there!
One of the last remaining “in the corner of the mall” theatres…hope the renovations bring some much needed business back to this mall. I remember how nice it was in the nineties…anybody remember Hess’s Dept. Store??
I agree dtrigubetz. Good news socal09. So glad someone saved it. Great memories here. Saw tons of great arthouse films here in the 90’s during college, then hung out downstairs at Virgin Megastore and eating at Wolfgang Pucks! The Archlight is nice, but seriously, $16.00 for a movie?
A beautiful theatre inside and out. Glad to see it’s still open. Went to the movies here alot when I lived in the area in the early 2000’s. Nice area too…near Hershey and lot’s of antiquing. Cant ever imagine it being an x rated theater…a very nice community.
A_Mclean/Stan Malone, according to my film ad archives, the Buckhead Art Cinema was located at 3073 Peachtree Road at Corner of E. Paces Ferry. I have ads from 1990.
Glad Sundance Cinemas is taking over. Hopefully they have decent prices. I like to see two to three movies a week and can’t afford $16.00 a pop at Archlight. I don’t care how great the projection is.
I’ve been here and it’s ok, it takes just as long to get in and out of here as it does to see the movie (I don’t like escalators). I miss Times Square when it was marquee after marquee and competitive competition and prices.
SO GLAD this gem was saved and still going strong. Went here every week when I was in college from 1995-1999. I remember they even showed old trailers for the upcoming films!
Thanks John! For several years I wanted to know more about this theater.I have several ads for the Hiway from the late thirties till 1970. Great photo. I have photos of the York Cinema but I see it hasn’t been added yet.
Such Great News!!!! When other cities are falling to one huge boring multiplex, Seattle seems to want to preserve their theatres. As an Actor, I want to see my name in lights on a marquee the it was meant to be!
Thanks Dennis. From the various ads I have from the 60’s,they had a very unusual booking system. They would go from a huge hit movie to a grade b to a more artsy picture to a porno and back again.
I love the original Cinerama Dome, but the Archlight is way over priced and nothing special. I’d much rather they renovated and re-opened the Pacific, Vogue and Ritz- and kept the Galaxy. At least it would have helped bring back the Boulevard.

Only if the theatre owners have the thousands of dollars to convert. It’s very costly.

Glad to hear it’s being used again. It’s in such a beautiful area. I used to pass this theatre on the way to Laguna Beach in the 90’s.

Anyone have photos looking up or down Broadway when the Ritz Theatre was Cinema I and II? Thanks

A true Cinema Treasure.
A Nice looking theatre, stopped by the other day. Such am amazing downtown area. Must have been amazing in it’s day.

I added a photo and article from the York newspaper from October 11, 1969 with the razing of the Holiday Theater. Some other theater ads on bottom.

Does anyone have any information or photos for the Hi-Way Theatre that was on Carlisle St? Have several ads for it. Thanks!
The essential classic theatre…this place is priceless. Just Go!
Nothing looks like it’s changed here since the 70’s and I mean that as a compliment. Very Cool.
Nice! I want to go right now.
Nice Theatre. Glad to see it survived the multiplexes. My Mother grew up in Rome and talked about the Uptown and Stanley alot.
This is a great theatre. It was always packed when I attended back in the 90’s.

What a shame. One beautiful theatre. Its plain but I love the marquee. Is it still standing?
