The Lyric Theatre appears to be the work of Valdosta architect Lloyd Greer, although this is not documented. The facade of the Lyric features a broken pediment in cast stone at its center. Underneath is an elaborate cast stone cartouche of the masks of drama. Underneath this feature are three arched windows with colummned supports. The brick work and fenestration of the Lyric's facade stongly suggests Greer's style as seen in the Moultrie Theatre (Moultrie, GA) and the Ilex Theatre (Quitman, GA). The theatre was operated by Lucas and Jenkins in the Forties and Fifties.

The original marquee did not have an announcement board but featured exposed light bulbs around its perimeter. A Moderne style marquee was installed sometime in the Forties, featuring a triangular shape with a large "L" at its center and the typical complement of neon lighting.

This theater should have been the one to "save".It is more intact than the gutted one.Waycross is a diamond in the rough. If it were a little closer to Jacksonville,it could come back from the grave it is in.I believe there was a 3rd theater downtown in the 50's.Could the church use facility be it?I often went to Waycross in the late 50's with my father on church affairs. The WWII airfield was still totally intact then and as a very young military groupie,I loved it.

One of the other theatres in Waycross was the Ritz which is now called the WACT, Waycross Area Community Theatre.
