Empire later Regal Cinema prior to closure

The Regal Theatre opened on 26th December 1912 as the Empire Theatre of Pictures and Variety. In the late-1930’s it was taken over by the small independent Bostock Cinemas circuit and renamed the Regal Cinema.

Further independents operated it for the remainder of its life and in 1955 it received a new facade and seats. It closed in July 1959 and became a small factory and office which continued until the company moved out.

The building was demolished in late-1992 and was replaced by a medical center.
