News About This Theater
- Mar 12, 2004 — Ritz Savior Takes on New Project
Built in a town of only 17,000 in 1928, this Italian Renaissance style theatre was opened on December 20, 1928. It was part of the Schine Circuit by 1941. It was purchased at a sheriff’s sale in December 1981. A non-profit group purchased the theater and went about the job of reopening the Ritz Theatre.
The interior and exterior of the Ritz Theatre has intricate patterns of plaster work, concrete forms, brass and stone designs and scroll work, all hand painted in an Italian Renaissance style motif.
